The Emisteme developer, Switzerland, is responsible for the data described here, under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP). Contact: privacy@emisteme.com.

When Emisteme starts, and every 15 minutes while it is open, it downloads a small file from downloads.emisteme.com to see whether a newer version exists, and downloads that version when it can install it by itself. The request carries no identifier. As with any download, Cloudflare, which serves the file, receives your IP address to deliver it.

When Emisteme crashes or an operation fails, it sends a report to its developer. A report contains:

• the error message and where it happened in Emisteme's code;
• for failed operations, which action failed (for example “Could not save the page”);
• the Emisteme version, your operating system and its version, and the processor type.

It never contains the content of your notes, your computer's name or your user name: file paths inside your home folder are shortened to ~ before anything is written. An error about a file, for example one that cannot be imported, may name that file. Reports are first saved on your computer, then sent in the background, so reports from a crash or an offline session are sent at the next launch. At most 100 wait on your computer.

Report a bug in the app sends only what you see in its window before sending: your description, the app version and operating system, and, if you tick them, the recent warnings and errors of your session and a screenshot of the window. The screenshot is off by default and may show your open page: check it before you send.

Error and bug reports go to errors.emisteme.com, an error tracker (Bugsink) running on the developer's own server in Switzerland. Cloudflare carries the connection to it and sees your IP address to do so; the server does not store it with the report. Reports are only used to find and fix bugs, are never sold or shared, and are deleted once the problem is fixed, and after 12 months at the latest.

emisteme.com uses no cookies, no analytics and no trackers. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address to serve the pages. The download page reads the list of the latest files when it opens.

You can ask what data about you exists, and have it corrected or deleted, by writing to privacy@emisteme.com. For a bug report, include the short id the app showed after sending it. You can also contact the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
